The castles, fortified towns and medieval villages will throw you back in time and will surprise you with their natural beauty.

Visitors sometimes call the Dordogne ‘the land of 1000 castles’. Many castles are open for public and five castles are only a walk away from the campsite. Most of them are situated on top of cliffs and have beautiful gardens. In summertime, events are organised in several castles like Château du Miilandes or Château de Castelnaud, which will make your visit unforgettable for young and old. Also worth a visit: the mysterious ruin of Commarque in the middle of a forest and the gardens of Marquessac with magnificient views.

While strolling through the cool ancient little alleys of a middle age village or having a drink on the central square of a bastide, you will dream away of ancient times. Villages close to the campsite and who are really worth a visit are Issigeac, Monpazier, Molières, Belvès, Beaumont and Limeuil. Medieval cities like Sarlat, Domme, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère are also worth a visit, just like the old centre of Bergerac where you can go on a barge on the Dordogne. Most of the cities have an extended summer event and festival program, like the festival ‘L’assiete de Cyrano’ in Bergerac, which takes place every year in July.
